Description
I was lucky to notice this guy late one night. Mantises are not particularly skittish, so I got some good shots. I ran into him the next day and will post a full sun shot in the future. The markings in the armpit are normal for a mantis.(edit: I removed the over-saturation for a more natural look, though it's still "flash burned" see link below)

Interesting suggestion. I could easily add a background to this, though it would then be a photo manip. A star field would be most appropriate, seeing as it's a night shot.
I suppose I could also fill in the white areas to reduce the flashyness of it.

I've updated this without the heavy saturation. My hope was that I could compensate for the "flash burn" with color, but I really wasn't sure about it. Sorry for the subpar image. I just like mantises.
Patrick, you're right. I only have the built in flash and hate using it.
